Congo ministers opposed to third presidential term removed from cabinet.  On Monday, Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso announced major changes to the country’s cabinet, including the removal of commerce minister Claudine Munari and civil service minister Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas. No official reasons were given for their removal, but both Munari and Kolelas have criticized Sassou Nguesso’s efforts to amend the constitution to allow him to run for a third consecutive term in office.

Iraqi prime minister announces constitutional reform project. Following parliament’s unanimous approval of a reform plan aimed at cracking down on government corruption, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced he would seek a popular mandate to amend the country’s current constitution. The announcement follows a week of protests in Baghdad calling on the government to improve services and take stronger measures against corruption.

Protests in Nepal over draft constitution turn deadly. On Monday, a civilian protest against federal province boundaries under the new Nepalese constitution turned deadly as police fatally shot two demonstrators and injured a dozen others. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala addressed the incident on Tuesday, urging people to exercise restraint and reassuring them that the constitution has not yet been finalized.
