Côte d’Ivoire president announces plans for constitutional reform. On Monday, the president of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, announced that if he wins a second term in this week’s elections he will push to replace what he claims is an ‘outdated’ constitution. The current constitution, which was passed following the military coup of 1999, contains controversial nationality provisions including a requirement that presidential candidates prove that their parents are native Ivorians.

Thai media groups urge constitution drafting committee to drop press restrictions. Four major media associations in Thailand have appealed to the Constitution Drafting Committee to remove a provision from the draft charter that governs the existence of the press, and asked the committee to protect freedom of expression. Thailand’s media has been subject to heavy censorship since the military took control of the country in the 2014 coup.
