On Sunday, the final version of the new Nepal draft constitution, featuring a seven-province federal model, was tabled before the Constituent Assembly. The document, which has been the subject of deadly protests throughout the country, has been criticized by opposition lawmakers and marginalized communities, who claim it limits their political representation.
2- Republic of Iraq:
Iraq president endorses constitutional amendments. Following the Iraqi parliament’s approval of a reform plan aimed at eliminating government corruption, President Fuad Masum released a statement saying the constitution should be amended as necessary, but not bypassed entirely. The statement is seemingly a response to Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s plan to eliminate the constitutionally established vice presidency.
Armenia moves forward with constitutional amendment project. On Friday, President Serzh Sargsyan submitted draft constitutional amendments to parliament that would establish a parliamentary system of government and limit the power of the presidency by 2018. President Sargsyan is now consulting with representatives of various political parties to gather feedback on the proposed reforms.
